Botox
Botulinum toxin type A is the actual name given to the treatment commonly known as Botox.
What is it?
Botox is a naturally derived protein which acts upon nerve endings to reduce the action of these nerves and thereby the muscles which they supply. When used cosmetically it reduces the strength of the muscles of the face which cause the tell-tale lines that come with age. The most common areas of the face are frown lines, crows' feet at the side of the eyes and the horizontal lines (surprise lines) that run across the forehead. We will always tailor the treatment to the individual patient but on the whole a more 'natural' look is achieved by the exact dosing of the Botox to prevent a 'frozen' appearance. We can also use Botox to prevent drooping of the eyebrows that are starting to become hooded with age.
Is it safe?
Botox has been used for many years very safely in various medical conditions such as cerebral palsy and for about 20 years in cosmetic use. Side effects are very rare but allergic reactions and effects on other muscles to those being treated have been reported in the medical press.
The effects of Botox are temporary and last from 3-6 months. On the whole it has been proved to be a very safe and effective procedure and this is what we have also found over the years in our clinic.
Underarm Perspiration
What is this?
Many people suffer from excessive underarm sweating leading to a great deal of social embarrassment.
The treatment of this disorder is conducted using Botox.
In just one short treatment session the administration of Botox leads to a dramatic reduction, in some cases none, to the amount of perspiration produced.
The effect only takes a few days to materialise and in most cases lasts for over 6 months.
Dermal Fillers
What are they?
Dermal fillers are used to remove or reduce lines, folds and wrinkles on any area of the face. They are based on hyaluronic acid, a clear gel, which is found naturally in skin which gives it its elasticity and as we age is degraded so that wrinkles form and skin becomes more lax. The main fillers used are Hydrafill, Restylane and Juvederm. There are other fillers on the market but from our research over the years these have proved to be the most effective.
How are they used?
After a local numbing of the skin (if needed) the fillers are injected into the specific area to be treated. They work immediately to lift the skin and soften the lines but after a couple of days when any redness has subsided their overall effect improves. These fillers can also be used to define lips or to fill them out to increase the ‘pout’. The time they last can vary but on average we have found them to last around 12 months making this a very cost effective treatment.
Are they safe?
The fillers used in our clinic have a very good safety record and we ourselves have seen no serious side effects to date. In a similar way to Botox, allergic reactions have been reported and the manufacturers recommend all patients are warned that this is a rare possibility.
Facial Contouring & Brow Lifting
What is it?
Facial contouring is achieved using a range of dermal fillers designed for the deeper layers of the skin. When they are used in this manner small areas of the face can be lifted and so enhanced – particularly the cheekbones or chin area. Imperfections in profile can be disguised and lead to the face having a ‘lifted’ effect rather than just erasing lines and wrinkles. The procedures are performed in the same way as with regular dermal fillers but may be performed over 1 or 2 visits to produced the ‘Gel Lift’ effect.
Botox advanced procedures can also be used to enhance the jaw-line and left eyebrows that are becoming lowered (hooded) to produce a ‘fresher’ more open-eyed appearance.
Teeth Whitening
Our system consists of a special whitening gel used in conjunction with custom-made mouth trays.
Impressions of the teeth are taken to ensure that the bespoke tray fits the patient exactly and that the
procedure is safe and effective. The gel, which is only available from dentists, is used for a couple of hours
a day or overnight, depending on the concentration.
The gel is very effective at whitening even the darkest of teeth (infact the darker the teeth, the better the result.
After many years, our dental surgeons have found that this whitening treatment provides more effective and longer lasting whitening that any of the one hour systems trialed in the surgery. The whitening results can be guaranteed.
Our Office 1-hour power whitening can whiten teeth by up to several shades, brightening your teeth dramatically to its natural shade. Your lips and gums are covered and a gel is applied to your teeth. A special light is positioned over your teeth to activate the gel, which gently penetrates your teeth, breaking up stains and discolouration. Whiter, brighter teeth in less than an hour!
Home Whitening
A custom made mouth tray is created. A whitening gel is placed in the tray which you then wear whist asleep or for short periods during the day. Results are normally seen over 2 weeks.
